Jury Awards $148M to Paralyzed Woman

A Chicago state court jury awarded $148M to a 24 year-old woman who was left paraplegic when a pedestrian shelter at O’Hare airport collapsed and fell on her. The shelter had missing bolts and corroded joints. The City of Chicago and the Chicago Airport Authority admitted their negligence but challenged the amount of money damages claimed by the injured woman. The woman had been a dancer before her injuries.
