Mack Truck Collision on US 24 Kills Two

A 1994 Mack truck collided with a vehicle on US Highway 24, killing both occupants of the other vehicle on impact. The collision occurred on October 5, 2011, in Miami County, Indiana. James R. Winters, 78, and Robert T. Benzing, 21, of Akron, Indiana were both wearing their seatbelts, but the impact of the Mack truck was too severe for the restraints to be life saving.

The Mack truck was loaded with concrete blocks and was being driven for Carter Concrete Block, Inc. of Logansport, Indiana. The driver of the truck, David Carter, was uninjured. The crash is being investigated by the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department.
